Each time an unkind word is spoken
The crack in my heart gets deeper
Each time you raise your hand to me
You earn the wrath of our Heavenly keeper
Each time you take another drink
The pain in my soul gets stronger
Each time you drive that car
The fear in my eyes gets stronger
How I wish I could turn back the clock
When we were both young and carefree
Before that 'eternity changing' first moment
when you took that first drink with me
How were we to know back then
that alcohol changes some and not others?
Who would have known, would we have taken heed?
We didn't even listen to our mothers.
Young, full of trust, knowing it all.
We had the world at our feet.
The evil grip of the demon's ale
Which keeper of who's soul will we meet?
The end of our days will the true story reveal
Only then will we fully comprehend.
Until that day comes I will live in fear
That 'weapon of drink' will one day, your life end.
